A Guide to Exploring Bermuda for Families

If you’re considering a trip to Bermuda with your family or have already booked one, you can be sure you won’t run out of things to do while you’re here.

From fun-filled activities to places of interest, Bermuda has so much to offer — making it the perfect place for families to enjoy some well-earned time together.

This blog will discuss the different things to do in Bermuda for young families and families with older children. Once you finish reading it, you may even want to buy a second home here...

Things to Do in Bermuda For Young Families

Thinking of coming to the island with the young ones? Worried about keeping them entertained? Don’t worry — there’s plenty on offer for young families across the island during low and high seasons.

What to Get Up to During Low Season

During the low season, the temperature is cooler, but with January average daily temperatures of around 66°F and average daily highs of 70°F it is still pleasant compared with most of the eastern seaboard. The cooler weather won’t stop you from keeping the kids occupied. Here’s what you could get up to:

Explore the Royal Naval Dockyard

Steeped in history on the island's western side, the Royal Naval Dockyard is an ideal spot to take the kids for a day of exploring. After taking a stroll around Bermuda’s marine hub, retreat to one of the child-friendly restaurants. There’s plenty more to enjoy here, including a cinema and trampoline park.

Wonder the Botanical Gardens

Made up of 36 acres, Bermuda Botanical Gardens is home to a palm garden, subtropical fruit garden and greenhouse filled with stunning flowers and plants. With so much space here, the kids can run wild and free. There’s no doubt they'll be tired out after an afternoon at one of Bermuda’s most stunning natural spots.

Enjoy a Horse and Carriage Ride Through St. George’s

Kids love animals — so they’re bound to enjoy a horse and carriage ride through the 18th-century town of St. George’s. After the horse and carriage ride has finished, there are plenty of other fantastic spots to see in the town. These include Tobacco Bay and the Unfinished Church.

What to Get Up to During High Season

As summer arrives, things start to hot up and temperatures range from the low 70s to the mid 80s. Pack plenty of sunscreen if you’re coming to Bermuda with the kids during high season. Here’s what’s on offer:

Watch the Humpback Whale Migration

Around 15,000 humpback whales migrate from the Caribbean at the start of April. If you’re here with the family at this time, it’s a spectacle you can’t miss. The weather is starting to heat up now, so you could even enjoy a picnic on the beach afterward.

Take a Trip to Gibbs Lighthouse

Built in 1844, Gibbs Lighthouse is located in Cross Bay and is one of Bermuda’s most historical points of interest. There are two lighthouses on the island and this one is the tallest. You’ll catch some amazing island views on a clear day. Even better — it’s guaranteed to tire the kids out!

Spend the Day at the Beach

With 34 pink sandy beaches to choose from, you won’t be short of options if you’re planning a day at the beach. Play in the sea with the kids, build sandcastles and soak up the glorious sunshine. We all know a day at the beach equals top-quality family time.

Things to Do in Bermuda For Families With Older Children

If you’re planning a Bermuda trip with older children, there’s plenty to enjoy here. Whether you’re coming in low or high season, it’s guaranteed that you’ll have a great time.

What to Get Up to During Low Season

Planning an Easter break, or just want to shake off the winter blues? Bermuda is the place to do it. The temperature might be a little cooler, but it doesn’t mean there aren’t many things to do. Here’s what’s on offer:

Get Competitive on the Golf Course

There’s nothing better than a bit of friendly competition and the golf course is the ideal place for it. There are eight golf courses on the island in total. Some are tougher than others, so do your research to find one that meets the family's skill level.

Go to a Notable Event

Bermuda knows how to put on an event and there are plenty to go to during low season. Some of the most notable include the Marathon Weekend and Kite Festival, which takes place on Good Friday weekend. What better way to celebrate with the family?

Visit Bermuda, Aquarium, Museum and Zoo

Located in Hamilton, the Aquarium, Museum and Zoo is a fantastic place to go with the family. Here, you can see a wide range of animals and learn about the island’s history. Conveniently located in the capital, there are plenty of places to grab a bite afterward.

What to Get Up to During High Season

Everybody loves the sunshine and it’s here in abundance during high season. Keep reading to find out what’s on offer as the weather starts to hot up:

Take to the Waters

The water temperature is perfect for family activities such as snorkelling, kayaking and deep sea fishing during high season. Or, if you’re coming here for a relaxing trip, hit the beach for the day and spend some time together in the sunshine.

Enjoy a Picnic at Horseshoe Bay

One of the island's most well-known beaches, Horseshoe Bay, overlooks the pink sands and turquoise water. If you and the family enjoy sightseeing, this spot is like something straight from a postcard. Pack a tasty lunch and spend the day unwinding in paradise.

Live Life Like Locals for the Day

Eat, drink and explore the island’s capital, Hamilton. If the kids need entertaining, there’s plenty to do in the city, including seeing the stone Cathedral and the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute.

So, there you have it — a roundup of some of the activities you could get up to if you decide to visit Bermuda with the family. You may just be coming for a vacation and somewhere to tick off the list. Or, this could be somewhere you see yourself potentially investing in a second home.

If that’s the case, Bermudiana Beach, a Tapestry Hotel by Hilton, could be the perfect place to make that investment.
