3 Great Reasons to Buy a Condo in Bermuda

5 minute read

So, you’re at the stage in your life when buying your dream condo has become a reality and you’re ready to live the dreamy condo lifestyle. Well, have you considered Bermuda? If you haven’t, you’re missing a trick. Usually, when people think of condos located in tropical or sub-tropical islands they tend to think of the Bahamas, the Cayman Isles and the Caribbean. Or if they are looking closer to home maybe they think of Nantucket or Martha’s Vineyard. But we believe that Bermuda trumps them all.

We’ve put together three top reasons why you should buy a condo in Bermuda. Trust us, it’s the perfect location and has everything you could ever need and more.

  1. It’s the Perfect Escape from the Big City
  2. There’s an Amazing Sense of Community
  3. Condos are More Affordable than Houses

1. It’s the Perfect Escape from the Big City

The hustle and bustle of the big city can get too much for anybody after a while. Well, you won’t find any kind of hustle and bustle in Bermuda. The quaint, sophisticated island is the perfect time travel experience and the ideal way to free yourself from the thoughts of everyday life. How can anybody be stressed when relaxing on one of Bermuda’s beautiful coral sand beaches?

Wake up from an amazing night’s sleep, draw back the curtains and simply admire that perfect ocean view. Watch the various native wildlife pass by and take in the tranquillity of the calm waters. It’s so easy to lose track of time because you are so relaxed.

Once you’ve managed to drag yourself away from the stunning views, there’s plenty to see and do in Bermuda. Whether it’s adrenaline-fuelled activities like cycling or water sports or sampling the local history in St Georges, you’ll never get bored of this place. The Royal Naval Dockyard is a must see for any history lover and you could quite easily immerse yourself for a day exploring the westernmost end of the island

If adrenaline-fuelled sports aren’t your favored way of taking your mind off the stress of work and everything back home, then head to Horseshoe Bay Beach and the numerous adjacent private coves. This picturesque beach has amazing pink sand and in 2017 was voted 16th best beach in the world by Conde Nast. Relax on a sun lounger and watch the day go by without a care in the world, or head here for a sundown that you’ll never tire of seeing. Bermuda really is the perfect place to forget about the rush of the big city.

2. There’s an Amazing Sense of Community

Condos in Bermuda offer a sense of community like no other. There’s a reason you’ll never hear a bad word said about a Bermudian - the locals will make you feel right at home from day one. The culture is amazing and everybody has time for everyone; it’s a lovely way of living.

In condos, you’ll live in close proximity to your neighbors and community is one of the highest priorities. Your community will come together and organize plenty of different social events. Whether it’s a welcoming party or a communal barbecue out in the condominium courtyard, you will always be welcome to go along and enjoy the night with your new neighbors and friends.

In the best cases, a professional management company will look after the condominium, as opposed to it being privately owned. Invariably a Home Owners Association (HOA) will also have been set up to represent the owners. In this way, you’ll have your say in the decisions about important issues such as maintenance and community bye-laws. It is then down to the management company to ensure that the decisions of the majority are properly implemented.

As a community, you’ll all share the communal amenities that are on-site. From the swimming pool and tennis courts to a private spa club, you’ll get to know your neighbors in many different ways. For families, parents and children will form bonds that will last a lifetime.

Bermudians are so friendly, so there’s never any awkwardness or selfishness when it comes to using the facilities. Everybody contributes to the running of the facilities and everyone has equal usage rights. Bermudian communities are like no other and are a major part of what makes this island as stunning as it is.

3. Condos are More Affordable than Houses

The third great reason to buy a condo in Bermuda is that they’re much more affordable than buying a house.

First of all, when you’re buying a condo situated outside of a resort community, you’re going to need to pay a license fee which, for a condo, is six percent of the total price. Whereas, if you were looking to buy a grand, family home, you’d be faced with having to stump up eight percent. And as houses are far more expensive than condos, that’s a huge difference.

The entry price for an overseas buyer purchasing a standalone home is around $2M, whereas the average price for a condo is $550,000. As you can see, condos are far more affordable, plus you gain access to all the great amenities on-site that wouldn’t be there in an individual house that will cost you so much more.

Be Sure About Your Condo

Buying a condo is a huge commitment and it’s not a decision that you should take lightly. Not only is it a huge financial commitment, but it’s a big cultural decision too. It has to be perfect, otherwise you won’t feel the full benefit of that dream condo lifestyle you’ve always longed for.
